The club confirmed that defender Celestine Babayaro will become a member of the team led by G.Souness on the first day of January. The transfer fee is not officially announced, but unofficially it is said to be around 2 million euros. The 26-year-old player arrived in England in 1997 from a team. In the first few years, he did quite well, but when Russian Roman Abramovich bought new stars for the local main team, there was no place left for him. Throughout his seven and a half years career, C.Babayaro played 196 matches and scored 8 goals for Chelsea. The arrival of the Nigerian almost hangs the career of Newcastle defender Olivier Bernard at the club, as his contract expires next summer and so far the player has not agreed to sign a new contract. C.Babayaro is expected to debut in the third-round match of the English FA Cup against Yeading.
