Former Brazil national team coach Wanderley Luxemburgo was appointed as the new coach of Real Madrid today (Thursday) at a press conference. Luxemburgo, who currently serves as the head coach of Santos, arrived in Madrid today and finalized the last conditions of his contract with Real. The 52-year-old strategist signed a one and a half year contract. Luxemburgo will replace Mariano Garcia Remon, who had been leading the team unsuccessfully.
Remon took over as head coach of Real Madrid in September, following the resignation of Jose Antonio Camacho, but he failed to overcome the team's playing crisis. Currently, one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, Real Madrid, is only in 5th place in the Spanish La Liga championship, trailing the team in first place by a whopping 13 points. In the last round of matches, Madrid's footballers were forced to admit defeat.
Earlier, Real Madrid added another new person - former coach Arrigo Sacchi was appointed as the new sports director of the club, so fans are hoping that these individuals will help their supported team to recover.
