Blatter again suggests holding the World Cup in Qatar in winter © EuroFootball.com

FIFA President Sepp Blatter stated that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar could be held in winter, instead of the usual June. This option is being considered due to the climate conditions - temperatures in the country often reach 50 degrees Celsius in the summer.

"Of course, I support the idea of holding the tournament in winter in Qatar," said Blatter, even though FIFA officials had previously rejected it. "We need to play when the climate is suitable. I am talking not only about the fans, but also the players."

General Secretary Jerome Valcke admitted that this would cause some chaos in the football calendar of that year - as many countries have their national championships in winter. Europe would be most affected.

"By doing this, we would give the chance to host the tournament to countries that could never do it in the summer," said Valcke.
