AC Milan officially sacked coach Rafael Benitez just six months after leading the team.
Rumors had been circulating for days when the Spaniard expressed his desire to receive support from the club's leaders and strengthen the team with several new players.
"An agreement satisfying both parties regarding the termination of the contract has been reached," reads the statement from Inter.
Benitez took over at the helm of the Italian champions in the summer, replacing the highly successful Jose Mourinho. However, the first half of the season was not as good for the Milan team - they are currently in seventh place in the national championship.
True, they won the Club World Cup last weekend, but they only finished second in the Champions League group stage, behind Tottenham Hotspur from London, so a tough opponent awaits them in the quarterfinals - Bayern Munich.
The most likely candidate to take over at Inter is Brazilian Leonardo, who recently coached the Milan club.
