The club's security guard from Spain, Xabi Alonso, suffered an injury which will prevent him from playing for about six weeks. The 23-year-old footballer broke his ankle.
The defensive midfielder got injured during yesterday's Premier League match with , which Liverpool lost 0-1. He left the field in the 25th minute after being roughly tackled by Frank Lampard. He received a yellow card for that.
"We have lost Xabi for six weeks," said the team's head coach Rafael Benitez on the club's official website. "This is a big loss for us."
X. Alonso arrived in England last summer from club for almost 11 million pounds. During this time, the young guard managed to establish himself in R. Benitez's main team and scored two goals in 23 matches.
Currently, apart from the Spaniard, Liverpool's team cannot play four more players due to injuries - Milan Baros, Harry Kewell, Vladimir Smicer, and Djibril Cisse.
