Leonardo, who signed a one-and-a-half-year contract, has become the new coach of Milan, replacing Rafael Benitez who was dismissed a few days ago.

The Brazilian will start his work on December 29.

"We believe that Leonardo is of the right level and has the experience of a winner. His mentality will help bring the team together and achieve results," a statement from Inter said.

Leonardo has only worked as head coach for one season so far - last season he led Milan, a fierce rival of Inter.

He is considered a hero of the latter club, as he not only played there from 1997 to 2001, but also worked as a scout, and eventually as a strategist.

"I don't know what my reaction would be," Milan vice president Adriano Galliani recently said when asked what Leonardo would do after taking over the reins at Inter. "He is important to Milan's history, as he made his career here both as a player and as a coach."
