The Italian newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport" has named Madrid strategist Jose Mourinho as the sportsman of the year.
This is the first time in 32 years that this award will go to a football club coach.
Portugal reaped the laurels after an impressive last season with the Milan "Inter" team, with which he won the Italian championship, the national cup, and the Champions League.
In the summer, Mourinho left the club and moved to Real, where so far in 25 official matches he has only suffered one defeat and celebrated 20 victories.
