Brazilian footballer faces serious trouble for a false report to the police that he was kidnapped. A defender representing one of the most powerful clubs in Rio de Janeiro, Botafogo, tried to justify his lateness to training in this way.

The player, whose name is Paulo Rogerio Reis da Silva, reported that around 7 o'clock in the morning armed attackers stopped his car on the way to training, drove him around the city for two hours, and took his money and valuables.

However, discrepancies in his story raised suspicions among officials, so it was decided to review the video footage taken at the player's house. It showed that Reis da Silva only left his house at 9 o'clock.

The footballer probably resorted to such a drastic lie because Botafogo penalizes latecomers very strictly - their salary is reduced by 40%. However, now he faces six months in prison.
