Round 17: "Milan" reduces the gap to two points © EuroFootball.com

After the winter break, the fights in the Italian football championship were extended. The 17th round saw many unexpected results, as teams in the lower parts of the tournament table managed to earn points.

The defending champions, "Milan" club, took advantage of a surprise victory over "Lecce" thanks to H. Crespo's benefit and reduced the gap from league leaders "Juventus," who failed to beat the second-to-last placed team "Parma" away.

For only the fifth time this season, one of the championship favorites, "Inter," won in a tough match against Tomo Danilevičiaus' "Livorno." The 3rd place team, "Udinese," suffered their fourth defeat, losing to "Sampdoria."

"Cagliari" climbed to the 6th place, despite missing G. Zola's penalty kick and managing to overcome "Messina." "Reggina" also secured a minimal victory against "Palermo."

Meanwhile, the absolute underdog "Atalanta" achieved their first season victory by starting 2005 with a win against "Fiorentina," while the team at the bottom of the table, "Siena," surprisingly won easily away against "Chievo."

Today, in the city derby of Rome, considered one of the most intense and interesting matches of the season, the clubs "Lazio" and "Roma" will face each other.
