Due to personal reasons, Tiago has decided to end his career in the Portuguese national team, announced the country's football federation.
The 29-year-old player, currently belonging to Turin's Juventus but representing Madrid's Atletico under a loan agreement, made his debut in the national team in 2002 and played a total of 58 matches. He managed to score three goals.
As he motivated his decision, Tiago stated that it's time to make way for younger players.
After last year's World Cup, five players have already retired from the Portuguese national team. Besides Tiago, defenders Miguel and Paulo Ferreira, midfielder Deco, and winger Simao also made this decision.
