Striker Dimitar Berbatov scored a "hattrick" against Birmingham in the XXIV round of the English Premier League over the weekend, marking the third time this season he has achieved this feat and breaking the club record.
Scoring three goals in three different matches during a season has only been accomplished by Ruud van Nistelrooy in the ranks of the 'Red Devils'. The Dutchman achieved this in the 2002-2003 season.
At the moment, Berbatov leads the English top football division players with 17 precise strikes.
According to Manchester United's head coach Sir Alex Ferguson, the Bulgarian is expected to surpass the 20-goal barrier in the near future, which would be very beneficial for the Manchester team.
"Berbatov is gradually nearing his twentieth goal of the season. Such an achievement would be beneficial," said the Scotsman to the radio station "Key103". "First of all, it will greatly affect the team, as someone will try to match him."
"He understands very well what he can do on the field, and other players also feel it. Players have started to take much better advantage of Dimitar during attacks," added the Scot.
