The club officially confirmed on Friday that they have reached an agreement with Ajax in Amsterdam to acquire striker Luis Suarez for 26.5 million euros.

The 24-year-old footballer will travel to Liverpool in the near future, where he will undergo a medical examination and sign the contract.

The English team has been trying to attract the Uruguayan national team star for the past few weeks, but their initial offer of 15 million euros was rejected. However, with the arrival of Liverpool's sports director, Damien Comolli, to Amsterdam, they managed to agree on the ransom amount, which can increase to the mentioned 26.5 million euros.

This season, Suarez scored seven goals in 13 matches in the Dutch championship. Last season, he scored thirty-five times in 33 games.

The striker became Liverpool's first purchase during this winter transfer window. The new club owners have revealed their intention to strengthen the team, currently in seventh place in the English championship, and not sell their leader Fernando Torres, who is sought after by Chelsea in London.
