Played Coppa Italia eighth-final second leg matches, after which last year's cup winner Rome's Lazio unexpectedly withdrew from the tournament, as did this season's Serie A leader Turin's Juventus club.

Defending champions "Lazio" at home after extra time defeated "Cagliari" team with a score of 3-2, but it was not enough, as the total score became 4-4 "Cagliari" advanced to the next stage due to away goals rule.

Also playing at home, "Juve" after the first leg with "Atalanta" had a two-goal deficit, which they failed to eliminate - the match ended in a draw, with Andrea Lazzari scoring three times for the visitors. By the way, Turin's team scored one goal on the field after Frenchman David Trezeguet returned from injury after three months.

The match between the teams "Udinese" and "Lecce" developed particularly dramatically. "Udinese" had won the first leg with an unusual score of 5-4, but trailing by three goals with six minutes left until the end of the second leg. However, in the last two minutes, the hosts managed to score twice and secure a place in the quarter-finals.

Having suffered a defeat in the first leg, "Roma" this time away from home crushed their opponent "Siena" by a score of 5-1, however, in the 35th minute of this match, the Rome team's fans began throwing flares onto the field, and due to the spread of smoke, visibility on the field deteriorated significantly. Nevertheless, after an hour, the match was resumed, and the visitors conceded one goal later in the second half and scored three times.

In the other eighth-final matches, there were no major surprises, as all the teams that had an advantage managed to preserve it: "Sampdoria" despite losing eliminated the only lower league team "Torino", both Milan clubs won against "Palermo" and "Bologna", and "Fiorentina" defeated "Parma" team.
