On Friday, Real Madrid completed negotiations with Everton regarding the transfer of Danish midfielder Thomas Gravesen to the Spanish team. The Dane signed a three and a half year contract with the royal club.
Since T. Gravesen's contract with Everton was set to expire this summer, the club was forced to sell the player or risk receiving nothing later. The transfer fee that Real will pay to the English club has not been disclosed, but according to the Spanish press, it should be slightly over 3 million euros.
Gravesen had excellent past performances and was one of the key players in the Danish national team and Everton, which surprised everyone this season - despite losing Wayne Rooney, the Liverpool players are currently in fourth place in the English Premier League, so the team did not rejoice at the Dane's departure.
"No one at Everton wanted to lose Thomas Gravesen, we did everything possible to keep him." - said general manager Keith Wyness - "When it became clear that Thomas decided to move to Madrid, we tried to negotiate the best possible deal for Everton, and I think we succeeded."
Gravesen came to Everton for the same 3 million five years ago from Hamburg, and in 155 appearances in England, he scored 12 goals. In the Real team, the Dane is likely to be useful playing in a defensive midfielder position, as there was a gap in that position two years ago when Frenchman Claude Makelele was sold to Chelsea.
