The team captain has extended his contract with the French team for another three years and will play with the team until June 2007.

The 28-year-old Brazilian defender has not played since October 30 due to a knee ligament injury. He plans to fully join the team in two weeks. The contract extension is another incentive for the player before his return.

"Everything was decided the same night he got injured against the Strasbourg team," said club president Jean-Michel Aulas. "Claudio cried. I saw his anguish and told him that no matter what happens with his knee, we will sign a contract extension with him."

Cacapa joined Lyon's club in 2001.
