London's Tottenham club achieved a memorable victory by defeating Italy's Serie A leader, Milan, on their own field.
The only goal was scored in the 80th minute by Peter Crouch, receiving the ball after a brilliant run by Aaron Lennon and sending it into the net from close range.
Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes had to work hard to stop two Mario Yepes head shots, and just before the final whistle, the referee disallowed Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal for a foul on defender Michael Dawson.
The passions did not subside even after the match - Milan defender Gennaro Gattuso allegedly hit Tottenham's assistant coach Joe Jordan, causing a scuffle. It is expected that those responsible will be punished with disqualifications.
Meanwhile, Raul returned to his native Spain and helped Schalke secure a 1-1 draw with Valencia with a great shot.
The former Real Madrid player sent the ball into the net just over an hour after receiving a pass from the edge.
Roberto Soldado gave Valencia the lead before half time.
Marius Stankevicius, who wears the Valencia team's jersey, is not registered for the Champions League tournament because he participated in the qualifying tournament representing Genoa's Sampdoria in the first half of the season.
