Another Russian team, Moscow's "Spartak", had to travel to Switzerland, where they were defeated 3-2 by "Basel".

"Liverpool" played a dull match away against Prague's "Sparta" ending in a goalless draw, while "Porto" defeated local "Sevilla" 2-1.
Portugal took the lead after a goal from Jorge Rolando in the 59th minute, and although Frederic Kanoute equalized with a header, the winning goal was scored by Freddy Guarin.
