After four consecutive defeats, club coach Claudio Ranieri has stepped down from his position.

On Sunday, the Eternal City team squandered a three-goal advantage and lost 4-3 away to Genoa. After this setback, Roma dropped to eighth place in the league standings, trailing by nine points from the fourth position, which still guarantees a Champions League spot.

"I always thought about what is best for the team, so after today's match, I thanked the players and resigned," said Ranieri.

"We stepped onto the field with a desire and will to win for those who love this club and city. Every failure has affected me greatly. It's painful to see the men fighting, but not succeeding."

Lately, the club's supporters have been urging the coach to resign and even organized a protest at the training ground.

The decision on the new strategist for Roma is expected to be made on Monday morning. The fans would like former footballer Vincenzo Montella, who currently leads the youth team, to take the helm.
