Gennaro Gattuso was punished with a four-match suspension for his actions during the Champions League round of 16 match against London's Tottenham.
The hot-tempered Italian clashed with 59-year-old English team coach Joe Jordan - at first he grabbed him by the neck and pushed him, and then after the final whistle he tried to headbutt him. He managed to avoid sanctions on the field, but after reviewing the video, UEFA took action.
"I lost control," said Gattuso, who once wore the Glasgow Rangers shirt. "I cannot justify what I did. I take full responsibility."
The footballer has three days to appeal, but he will miss the return leg in any case, as he received a yellow card in an incident unrelated to the clash in the first match.
