Gennaro Gattuso compared the four-match suspension handed out by UEFA to a month in prison.
The hot-headed Italian pushed Tottenham's coach Joe Jordan in the Champions League match and later tried to headbutt him.
UEFA took action against Gattuso for unsporting behavior and suspended him for four games.
"I apologize to everyone," Gattuso said. "This suspension is like a month in prison.
"I wanted to watch the return match in London, but I was advised not to - there will be 37,000 fans, each of whom would like to shout at me!
My motto is 'respect those who respect you.' After the match, I approached Jordan and he dramatically took off his glasses and started shouting insults."
