In the first leg held in Italy, the forward took advantage of a mistake by Inter's goalkeeper Julio Cesar to stop Arjen Robben's long-range shot and score the only goal of the match.
The Germans were closer to scoring throughout the match - Robben and Franck Ribery hit the goalpost, - but the hosts also had chances. Samuel Eto'o could have scored several times, but his attempts were stopped by goalkeeper Thomas Kraft.
