Former head coach of the Lithuanian national team Jose Couceiro has taken over the reins of a Lisbon club.
The 48-year-old specialist will replace Paulo Sergio by the end of the season, who was dismissed due to poor results. In the Portuguese championship, the capital team is currently in third place, trailing leader "Porto" by 23 points and withdrew from the Europa League tournament in the middle of the week.
"We appreciate Paulo Sergio's dedication and competence, but poor results forced us to take action," said Sporting board member Felipe Nobre Guedes.
Couceiro coached the Lithuanian national team from 2008 to 2010. Later, he worked at the Turkish club "Gaziantepspor," and recently he was the Sporting director of sports. His debut should take place in Sunday's match against "Nacional."
