Group stage matches ended in the quarterfinals of the Annual Unity Cup. Lithuanian champions FBK "Kaunas" continue to successfully compete, firmly advancing to the quarterfinals with three victories.
In the second match, thanks to a goal by Artūras Rimkevičius, the Kaunas team narrowly defeated the "Tbilisi" team from Georgia, and in the third match, after a precise shot by Audrius Kšanavičius, they also won with the same result against Taškent's "Pachtakor" team.
Without losing a single point, "Kaunas" has so far become the best competing club in the tournament, as they are the only ones who have managed to win all three matches. In other B group matches, "Pachtakor" narrowly defeated "Dordoi-Dinamo"; the match between the latter team and "Tbilisi" ended in a draw.
In the quarterfinals, "Kaunas" will face Alma-Ata's "Kairat" from Kazakhstan, who took the first place in Group A due to a better goal difference. Second place was taken by Minsk's "Dinamo", while third place was secured by the Lithuanian team "Levadia" from Tallinn. Although the Russian youth national team also competed in this group, their matches did not affect the tournament situation.
In the other quarterfinal pair, the winners from groups C and D will play - respectively, the clubs "Pyunik" and "Neftchi": the Armenians in Group C eliminated Riga's "Skonto" with Orest Buitkus, defeating them due to a better goal difference, while the winner of Group D, "Neftchi", won both matches.
The quarterfinal matches will take place tomorrow, Wednesday. In the event of a victory against "Kairat", "Kaunas" will face Moscow's "Lokomotiv" in the semifinals, while the winner of the other quarterfinal pair will play against Kiev's "Dynamo".
