Often forgiven English coaches complain about not getting enough time to make a contribution to the team, while the leaders of a French club acted completely differently - they refused to fire Jean Tigana, who asked for it.
The 55-year-old specialist, whose students are only in tenth place in the league table, submitted a resignation statement, but it was rejected.
"Jean submitted a statement that we, of course, rejected. We started a project together with him and hope to finish everything together," said Bordeaux's managing company president Nicolas de Tavernost.
Meanwhile, Tigana himself insisted: "I offered to step down because I thought I was hindering the team's progress. I don't want to be an obstacle. Now, having received such trust, I am even more motivated."
The specialist's contract is valid until the summer of 2012. N. de Tavernost hinted that it may be extended in the near future.
