After the two quarter-final matches of the 2005 edition of the "CIS Cup" were played on Wednesday, it was revealed that the champions of Lithuania and Russia - FBK "Kaunas" and "Lokomotiv" clubs will meet in the semi-finals.
In the quarter-finals, "Kaunas" faced the best team of Kazakhstan Alma Ata "Kairat" and defeated them in a penalty shootout. Since no goals were scored during the regular time of the match, penalty kicks were immediately taken, with Lithuania's team emerging victorious with a 3-2 result.
Therefore, on Friday the residents of Kaunas will face the team of "Lokomotiv" from Moscow in the first semi-final, which includes Lithuania's national team defender Deividas Česnauskis. Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, Baku's "Neftchi" will play against Kiev's "Dynamo," having defeated Yerevan's "Pyunik" with a two-goal margin in the quarter-finals.
