The team captain Steven Gerrard has successfully undergone groin surgery, after which the footballer will not be able to play for four weeks.

"The decision (to lie on the operating table - ed. note) was made after consulting with a specialist," reads the official club statement on Friday.

The 30-year-old midfielder was injured during a "Premier" league match at Stamford Bridge stadium between the 'reds' and the London "Chelsea" on February 6.

It is already clear that Gerrard will not be able to help the "Liverpool" team in the UEFA Europa League round of 16 matches against "Braga" and in three national championship matches ("Sunderland", "W.B.A." and "Man City").

In addition to being sidelined, he will also have to deal with the English national team, which is awaiting 2012 European Championship qualifying matches with Wales and a friendly match with Ghana.
