"Borne" President Punished for Attempt to Acquire Messi © EuroFootball.com

The president of a small French village football team, where only 400 people live, has been disqualified for attempting to acquire Lionel Messi, reports "Guardian".

This week, Cedric Enjolras, the manager of the "Borne" team playing in the regional country league, shocked the French Football Federation by submitting an official application to acquire the superstar.

The team's manager later claimed to have been joking, but to the country's football officials, such "humor" seemed unacceptable.

"Small clubs can submit player acquisition applications online, so I filled out the necessary documents, wrote Messi's name and surname, his date of birth, current club, and sent them to our league leaders. They forwarded the application to the federation," Enjolras told journalists.

When the filled documents of the "Borne" president reached the French Football Federation, its representatives refused to send the application to the Spanish Football Federation. Furthermore, Enjolras received sanctions - he won't be able to lead the team for up to 6 months.

"We cannot tolerate such behavior. Although it is just an inappropriate joke, we must properly assess the facts," said Yves Begonas, head of the player registration department of the French Football Federation.
