The vice president of the Catalonia club Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed in an interview with the radio station "ONA FM" that they will definitely present Eric Abidal with an offer to sign a new contract.
The current 31-year-old footballer's contract expires in the summer of 2012.
"We will definitely offer Abidal a new deal. He continues to progress and is very useful to the team. Eric was a great player before, and now he has become a top-class player," said one of the leaders of the Catalonia club.
According to Bartomeu, the defender will be offered to extend his contract until the summer of 2013.
Abidal himself has mentioned in conversations with journalists that he would most likely end his football career if he does not receive a new offer from "Barcelona."
The Catalonia club acquired the defender in 2007 from the "Lyon" team for 15 million euros and signed a four-year contract with him. Abidal, who has successfully established himself in the Barcelona lineup, extended his contract for another season until June 30, 2012, back in 2009.
