After a seven-year break, Real Madrid, crossing the barrier of the Champions League round of 16, will fight Tottenham from London for a place in the semifinals.

For the ninth time, the champions from Spain will examine a team that is making their debut in the prestigious tournament. The first match will take place in Madrid on April 5, and the eleven will meet in London on April 13.

"Everyone wants to enter such a fight," said Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp. "A coach also wants to lead the team against such an opponent, and fans want to see the match. It couldn't be better.

"The draw is fantastic. We are facing matches with one of the best clubs in the world. Of course, it will be difficult because Real is a great team. But these will be outstanding days in Tottenham's history and in each of our lives."

And he added: "We will try to win. I have always said that the favorites are two Spanish clubs. Nevertheless, we have chances against anyone."

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho did not see any reason to be disappointed: "I am happy. And not because I consider Tottenham an easy opponent, but because I really like playing in England."

The team's director, Emilio Butragueno, added: "We are very satisfied because in recent years we have not been able to reach the quarterfinals in any way. The fight will be great because Tottenham has excellent players who know how to attack well. I am sure it will be difficult."
