Leverkusen's "Bayer" is getting closer to the leader Dortmund's "Borussia" club - after a 2-0 victory against "Schalke", Juppo Heynckes's team's deficit decreased to seven points.
Eren Derdiyok's goal and Christoph Metzelder's own goal allowed "Bayer" to secure a convincing victory, after which their advantage over the team in third place, "Hannover", is five points.
"Borussia" lost two points on Saturday, when a late and controversial goal by Petar Sliskovic allowed "Mainz" to snatch a 1-1 draw in Dortmund.
Mats Hummels put the hosts ahead at the start of the match, and Nuri Sahin had a perfect opportunity to double the lead, but his penalty kick was saved by the goalkeeper.
"Borussia" dominated, but did not capitalize on their chances and paid dearly for it when Sliskovic restored parity in the 89th minute.
