The 22-year-old footballer got injured while warming up before Saturday's Euro2012 qualifying match, in which the Germans crushed Kazakhstan 4-0.
It is reported that the former "Hamburger" player will need surgery.
Boateng's loss is a great setback for the English club competing in next year's UEFA Champions League tournament, as due to an Achilles tendon injury, he cannot play and another team defender Micah Richards will take his place.
