The Lithuanian national team failed to produce a sensation - in Tuesday's European Championship qualifying match, Raimondas Žutautas' pupils once again fell to the planet's champions, the Spaniards, with the same result of 1-3.
The first goal came in the 19th minute, when Xavi sent the ball into the net after a rebound. Just before half-time, Fernando Llorente missed great opportunities to double the score, with his close-range shot saved by goalkeeper Žydrūnas Karčemarskas. Shortly after the break, Marius Stankevičius leveled the score with a great long-range shot.
However, Spain proved their strength - in the 70th minute, Tadas Kijanskas scored an own goal after a cross from the flank, and Juan Mata secured the victory in the 83rd minute after coming on as a substitute.
