One of the leaders Umberto Gandini warns: decreasing attendance figures for Italian championship matches could turn the league into second-rate in Europe.
"Italian football has a huge problem," said Gandini. "More and more fans do not want to go to stadiums and prefer to watch matches on television. Something needs to be done, otherwise we will become a second-rate league."
Last season, an average of 24.6 thousand spectators watched a Serie A match. This figure is lower than in Germany (42.4 thousand), England (34.2 thousand), and Spain (27.7 thousand).
However, due to a new TV rights deal, revenues from television broadcasts will increase by about 20 percent.
"We have good, although not exceptional, profits from commercial activities, but revenues from matches, merchandise sales are small. There is a huge gap between us and Spain and England," Gandini said.
