Former Portuguese national team coach Carlos Queiroz has signed a three-year contract with the Iranian national team.

The experienced specialist, who has worked with the South African national team and also led Real Madrid, arrived in Tehran on Monday morning, where all formalities will be arranged.

Although initially Queiroz's family was not inclined to move to Iran, a $2 million annual salary convinced them to change their minds.

Iran did not qualify for the 2010 World Cup, and in the Asian Cup tournament, their campaign ended in the quarterfinals.
