As reported earlier, team guard Owen Hargreaves suffered a shoulder injury during training and will no longer play this season.

Coach Sir Alex Ferguson will have to make a decision in the next couple of months whether to release Hargreaves or extend his contract, which expires in the summer.

Hargreaves, who joined the 'Red Devils' in 2007, played only 39 matches and spent the rest of the time recovering from injuries.

The team's executive director David Gill discussed the situation with the former Bayern Munich player, and Ferguson will have to make a decision about the guard's future in the club for the remainder of the season.

"I don't think so," the coach responded to the question of whether Hargreaves will play this season. "He injured his shoulder. This injury ended his season. Hargreaves simply hasn't been doing well since he arrived here. His contract expires this summer and I don't know yet what his future will be."

The former England national team guard played only 10 minutes for Man Utd this season, when last November he returned to the field after a long break in a match against Wolves, but at the beginning of the first half he suffered another injury.
