The worst start of the season in club history forced Moscow's coach Valery Karpin to resign.

On Thursday, the team from the Russian capital, which has not won any prestigious trophy since 2003, withdrew from the Europa League tournament, losing hopelessly in the quarterfinals with a total score of 3-10 to "Porto".

Furthermore, on Sunday, "Spartak" suffered their third defeat in the first five rounds of the national championship and dropped to the last 16th place in the standings.

It is still unclear who will replace Karpin in the coaching position, as he will remain a member of the club's board.
