After more than 20 years in power, Vyacheslav Koloskov resigned from the position of President of the Russian Football Federation (RFS).
Although officially V. Koloskov can only step down from his current position upon receiving the approval of the RFS executive committee members, he himself requested the committee to approve his resignation.
"I asked the executive committee members of the RFS to consider my resignation statement and hold new presidential elections for the RFS," said V. Koloskov.
The 63-year-old sports official was supposed to hold this position until 2008, and his early resignation statement will be the main topic of the extraordinary meeting planned for April 2.
Koloskov started his career back in the 1980s when he was appointed as the head of the Soviet Union's ice hockey department. In 1979, he became the head of the country's football department, and after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, he was the President of the RFS from 1992.
