Leverkusen defender Sami Hyypia confirmed that he will end his professional football career this summer.
The 37-year-old Finn started his career at "MyPa" in his native country and in 1995 moved to the Netherlands to "Willem II". Just four years later he was signed by the famous English club "Liverpool", with whom Hyypia won the Champions League, UEFA Cup.
"The decision has been brewing throughout this season. I am no longer interested in the possibility of playing somewhere else," said Hyypia, who will work in the coaching staff of "Bayer".
"I have nothing to regret. I thank everyone who helped me, as well as my relatives, family, friends, without whom I would not have achieved anything."
This season, the veteran played 20 matches in the German championship, starting only one of them not in the starting lineup.
