Over the weekend, eight matches of the 24th round of the French "Ligue 1" championship were played. The match between "St-Etienne" and "Ajaccio" was postponed due to a frozen pitch, and the match in Bastia between the local team "Bastia" and the championship leaders "Lyon" did not take place due to rioting.
Leaders had different outcomes in this round. The team in third place, "Auxerre," suffered a 0-3 defeat to "Metz" and lost their spot to "Monaco," who defeated the capital team "P.S.G" 2-0 in the central game of the round on Sunday.
"Marseille," in fifth place, took advantage of "Auxerre's" stumble by defeating "Toulouse" 3-1 away and leveling with the team from Auxerre in points.
The team currently in second place, "Lille," lost two more points by playing a goalless draw with newcomers "Caen," allowing "Monaco" in third place to reduce the gap to 2 points. It is worth mentioning that the Monaco team has played one game less.
Edgaras Jankauskas' "Nice" once again failed to secure a victory - this time playing a goalless draw with "Sochaux." The Lithuanian national team striker missed the entire match on the pitch and received a yellow card in the 77th minute.
