The club unexpectedly signed a contract on Monday with one of the most promising players in Serie A, Bulgarian Valeri Bojinov, who scored 11 goals in 15 matches this season in the Italian championship.

The team with which V. Bojinov extended his contract until 2009 last December, Fiorentina, will pay 13 million euros and give its player Jaime Andres Valdes as part of the deal.

Last week, there were talks that V. Bojinov might join clubs in London that were very interested in him, as well as attracting the attention of many other European giants. However, ambitious Fiorentina was faster and agreed on the player's transfer on the last day of the winter transfer window.

It is believed that criticism of the head coach could have prompted Lecce to sell a very promising 18-year-old player. Last week, V. Bojinov criticized head coach Zdenek Zeman, saying that his game style hinders the team's ability to score points. "It's hard to play elegantly, effectively, and beautifully," the Bulgarian said at the time.

Bojinov became the third consecutive purchase for Fiorentina - today, two promising players, Gianpaolo Pazzini and Marco Donadel, also joined the club.
