London strategist Arsene Wenger acknowledges that fans had the right to boo the team after the loss to Birmingham's "Aston Villa."
In Sunday's match, the capital team lost to their opponents 1-2 and risk losing the third place in the tournament standings before the last round.
Unsatisfied fans booed the team and left the stadium early, so the players had to go through the traditional lap of honor after the last home match to empty stands.
"Our job was to thank the fans and we have to do it without any shame. It wasn't a glorious journey, but we have to respect the people who supported you all season," said the Frenchman.
"We have to accept that some of them left early, but we have to thank those who stayed until the end. Our job is to make the audience happy, so if we don't do it, we have to accept the consequences."
Wenger also mentioned that the club may spend less on new players this summer than expected.
"The fans won't care how much we spent, they just want to see victorious matches," he said. "We will try to strengthen the team, but the most important thing is to win and make the fans happy."
