Roberto Baggio confirmed that this is indeed his last season. The 37-year-old Italian football legend was encouraged to keep playing, but it seems that recently scoring his 200th goal in Serie A was one of his last goals in his career.
"This time I am truly certain. I will finish playing in May. I hope that throughout my career I was a good example for young people because I never gave up, despite many injuries. Football is my passion," he said.
The former best player in the world played for seven clubs in his career - Vicenza, Fiorentina, Juventus, Milan, Bologna, Inter, and now he is a teammate of Lithuanian Marius Stankevičius at his current club.
But Baggio's memories of playing for the national team are not the most pleasant. In the 1994 World Cup final, he missed a crucial penalty kick, and Brazil became the world champions. The player stopped thinking about that tragic moment only four years later.
Baggio may play for the national team one last time this month, as coach Giovanni Trapattoni said he is ready to invite him for a friendly match against Spain.
Meanwhile, generally the last match in Baggio's career will probably be on May 16 at San Siro stadium, where Brescia will face Milan.
