One of the city derbies between the clubs "Rapid" and "Austria" had to be interrupted in the first half due to masked and aggressively minded hooligans invading the pitch.
After the visiting team "Austria" gained a two-goal advantage, the hotheads ran onto the field, and the players hurriedly headed towards the dressing rooms.
Police officers separated the fans of different teams and thus avoided further disturbances.
Referee Thomas Einwaller waited for half an hour, but was forced to stop the match.
"Both teams and referees wanted to continue the game, but the officials could not guarantee safety," the judge said. "It's a shame that such things happen in Austrian football."
