Mourinho's influence is growing: "Real" club fired sports director Valdano © EuroFootball.com

Jose Mourinho once again proved that he is one of the most influential coaches in the world of football. Real Madrid's president, Florentino Perez, agreed to dismiss the director of sports, Jorge Valdano, who was not liked by the Portuguese, and to give the strategist an even greater say in making important decisions.

"I didn't turn Real into a battlefield," Valdano claimed. "There was an intention to limit all my efforts. I haven't personally spoken to Mourinho in a long time. We greet each other politely, but he wanted to work with other people. My area of responsibility working with the main team has decreased and I didn't feel comfortable."

Meanwhile, Real's president denied that Mourinho demanded the dismissal of the sports director: "I must admit that Valdano's departure is very painful to me. We have traveled a long way together. But Mourinho didn't ask for it. We only make fair decisions that are not based on any personal sympathies or antipathies. Jose wanted to have more freedom of action and work in the way it is done in English clubs," added Perez.

"We have the best coach in the world and we want even after he leaves and we acquire another great specialist, he will find a great structure created for successful work."
