Italian police have arrested former national team striker Giuseppe Signori and 15 others who are suspected of organizing fixed football matches and earning money in betting offices.

According to reports, among those arrested are former players of the top "Serie A" league as well as current players in "Serie B," "Serie C," and lower-level competitions.

Law enforcement officials are investigating eighteen football matches, including the recently ended Serie A season game between Inter Milan and Lecce, in which the criminals allegedly failed to reach an agreement, as well as matches involving Siena and Atalanta.

Signori, who was one of the best strikers in Italy in the 1990s, has refused to comment on the allegations.
