Gelsenkirchen found a replacement for their main goalkeeper Manuel Neuer - the vacant position will be filled by Ralf Fahrmann, acquired from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 22-year-old footballer signed a four-year contract.
"We are very pleased, as Ralf is an excellent footballer and person. He is a talented goalkeeper who has been improving for many years," said Schalke sports director Horst Heldt.
The value of the deal is undisclosed, but it is believed that Schalke saved money due to Eintracht's relegation from the highest division in Germany.
It is worth noting that Neuer signed a contract with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
