On Saturday, two matches of the 23rd round of the Italian "Serie A" championship were played. The league leader Turin's "Juventus" suffered their second consecutive defeat, while "Fiorentina" found themselves in crisis after a series of four losses.

This time, "Juve" was forced to admit defeat to "Palermo" on the road. The only goal of the match was scored by F.Brienza in the 13th minute, sending the ball into the goal with a left-footed shot from the penalty area. This is the first time in over 50 years that the hosts won this match in Sicily.

"Sampdoria", performing well in recent matches, temporarily rose to third place by defeating almost all of the ten-man "Fiorentina" team. V.Bojinov and Daniele Delli Carri were sent off the field in the 8th and 10th minutes, respectively, and later F.Flachi, M.Tonetto, and A.Diana scored goals for "Sampdoria".

Following such failure, the recently appointed "Fiorentina" coach Dino Zoff offered his resignation. The legendary goalkeeper cited the officials' bias against his team as the reason, suggesting that political motives are at play because he and the Florence club have previously clashed with the Italian Prime Minister S.Berlusconi's "Milan".
