One of the best Danish footballers of all time, Jonas Dahl Tomasson, has announced the end of his career.

The footballer, who scored 52 goals in 112 matches for his national team, is hanging up his boots, as he has not fully recovered from a thigh injury he suffered last summer at the World Cup in South Africa. Doctors advised him to rest for at least another three months, but he has decided not to return to the field.

"This day is very sad for me, as being a professional footballer is the most beautiful thing," said the 34-year-old veteran.

Tomasson began his career at the "Koge" team, then moved to the Netherlands where he played for "Heerenveen." His career then took him to "Newcastle" for a few years, before returning to play in the Netherlands again, this time for Rotterdam's "Feyenoord."

After four years there, the footballer signed with "Milan," where he won the Italian championship and the Champions League.

"Of course, the triumph in the UEFA Cup with "Feyenoord" and the victory in the Champions League are the most memorable moments," said the Dane. "I always wanted to get the most out of my career."

Later, Tomasson played for "Stuttgart" and "Villarreal" before returning to "Feyenoord" as his final club.

In the near future, the player plans to start working in the coaching staff of Rotterdam's "Excelsior."
