Alex McLeish has officially been appointed as the new head coach of Birmingham.

The 52-year-old specialist has signed a three-year contract. However, this news was met with controversy: Aston Villa fans are not happy that the team will be coached by the former fierce rival Birmingham coach. McLeish left this club just a few days ago.

Approximately 500 fans even staged a protest on Thursday, but their voices went unheard.

“It will be an honor for me to coach a club with such an impressive history,” said McLeish. “I could not reject such an offer.”

Aston Villa, which finished ninth in the English championship, was looking for a new coach after Gerard Houllier stepped down due to health problems.
