The club signed a five-year contract with "Rennes" midfielder Sylvain Marveaux. The player, who is currently playing on the field, will become a free agent at the end of June, so no transfer fee had to be paid to the English team. Marveaux was also being eyed by "Liverpool", but unofficial sources report that he did not pass the medical examination. "It's great that we were able to shake hands with Sylvain, as he was of interest to several teams," said "Newcastle" manager Alan Pardew.
